This is my latest for Vinexposium magazine Voice Edition 6, exploring the regulatory patchwork for #wine exports to the region and reflect on the huge leap forward that the APEC - Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) Model Wine Export Certificate offered in helping simplify and streamline wine trade across the 21 global economies from Asia-Pacific and elsewhere that make up APEC.
FIVS and others demonstrated that wine’s inherent characteristics (alcohol, acidity and other natural components) make it an inhospitable environment for harmful microbes. This evidence helped regulators across the region eliminate unnecessary testing requirements reducing costs and regulatory delays for producers and allowing governments to focus on higher-risk products. The APEC Model Wine Certificate stands as a powerful example of what can be achieved when industry, regulators and scientists work together.
NTBs still exist in some markets and FIVS supports its members to navigate these and to identify and eliminate new ones where they arise.
