Wine & Society
Making the case for wine as a cultural asset, while promoting responsibility and supporting evidence-based policies to combat harmful consumption.
FIVS aims to support and improve the understanding, operation and future needs of the international wine community.
Wine connects people, places, traditions and society in ways unlike any other product — it offers a remarkable world to explore and discover, and holds enduring economic and cultural value.
Led by evidence and a united, strategic approach, FIVS advocates with clarity — actively engaging with policymakers worldwide and developing collaboration across borders and organisations, ensuring that this economic and cultural value is fully recognised.
FIVS's role in the global wine sector intertwines responsibility, sustainability, innovation, culture and commerce.
Making the case for wine as a cultural asset, while promoting responsibility and supporting evidence-based policies to combat harmful consumption.

Addressing trade barriers for wine, engaging with policy-makers and promoting sustainable economic growth.
FIVS makes the case for workable, fair rules of production: standards that support a competitive operating environment, encourage innovation, and promote quality, while minimising the number of divergent national requirements the industry must manage.
At FIVS, collaboration is at the heart of everything we do.
Through effective, united advocacy, FIVS aims to shape the optimal global business environment for wine — promoting sustainability, responsibility and innovation and committing time and resources to clearly-defined organisational priorities.
FIVS contributes meaningfully to the debate on wine and society and is a respected global voice for the wine industry.
We advocate for evidence-based policies to combat harmful consumption and make the case for moderation as a practice.

Our goal is to establish and build on this well-earned reputation for an industry that uniquely spans agriculture, production and economic impact.
FIVS promotes sustainable economic growth and advocates for fair access for wine in all global markets, for the sector and consumers alike.
We regularly engage with regulatory and intergovernmental bodies, representing wine and its major markets on the world stage.
FIVS makes the case for workable and fair rules and standards of production, supporting a sustainable and competitive operating environment that encourages innovation and promotes quality.
Working closely with recognised leaders in the technical, economic and cultural aspects of wine, we represent best practices for the sector as a whole.
FIVS advocates for the ideal operating environment for the global alcohol beverage sector, as well as for the advancement of the industry. It deals with governments and international organisations and provides advice on public policy issues. FIVS has created and pursues several initiatives to advance the sector’s aims in the public policy arena.
Every year members come together at two General Assembly meetings to vote on actions for FIVS to take. FIVS operates by consensus. This means that if there is a single dissenting voice in the membership, FIVS will not act in that particular area. All members must agree in order for FIVS to take action.
The FIVS mission statement is as follows:
We will shape an optimal global business environment for wine through effective, united advocacy that promotes sustainability, responsibility and innovation; and ensures that the economic and cultural value of wine is fully recognised worldwide.
