Sodium Hydroxide

In laboratories and wine testing, sodium hydroxide is used as a base for various tests such as titrations to prevent corrosion by organic acids from wine. Sodium hydroxide is permitted for use in grape wine in multiple countries worldwide

Usage in Winemaking: 

Sodium hydroxide is often used in brandy or wine spirits as an acid neutrilising agent. It is also used as a deacidifier to remove organic acids.
