Prevention of Underage Drinking

Through Pubwatch, a group of licensees launched a wristband scheme aimed at preventing underage alcohol beverage consumption. The project’s plan is to ask anyone who looks under 21 for identification before allowing them into their premises. If customers can provide a passport, driving licence, Portman Prove It Card or a local Heywood Trading Standards proof-of-age card, they will be provided with a brightly colored wristband

Under 21 Poster Campaign

A national poster campaign aimed at encouraging consumers who look under 21 to carry ID. Pub companies are sent posters which can be displayed in pubs letting those who appear under 21 know they may be asked for proof of age. The posters describes what the acceptable forms of ID are – a card with the PASSlogo, a photographic drivers license or a valid passport.

This responsible consumption campaign focuses on the prevention of beer sales to minors, calling upon participants in the sale of beer to assume the role of the guardian of minors by being as vigilant as any normal parent would be. It is promoted on television and in newspapers, in addition to the distribution of point-of-sale material and the training of outlet staff, managers and owners.

Respect 21 Responsible Retailing Programme

A innovative pilot programme which evaluates current local retail practices through research and mystery shoppers. Information is gathered in order to better supply retailers with the tools they need to help prevent underage access. Prior to the programme, about 74% of the time clerks asked for ID and after the programme this improved to 87%.
